We are a cut flower and floral design farm located in Cooperstown, NY that provides seasonal, high quality, locally grown blooms fresh from our fields using only organic methods. We specialize in wedding and event work, and provide our cut flowers for all occasions. We sell to individuals, restaurants, hotels, designers, florists, at farmers markets and offer a cut flower CSA beginning in late Spring.
In Fall of 2013 we moved back to my childhood home in Middlefield Center, between Cooperstown and Cherry Valley, NY to assist with taking care of my father. Emily had been working as an organizer overseeing fifty community gardens for a non-profit in the Capital Region, and I had been working in the public library system there while growing food and flowers for friends and family.
City life had its perks and amenities, but we knew that eventually we would be moving out into the country to do what we loved to do, to grow cut flowers. And of course garlic, and vegetables for ourselves as well. My father's health had deteriorated to the point of needing round the clock assistance, so the move home allowed us to be with and care for him along with my mother, as well as begin to seriously work the land organically on a small scale and selling our flowers locally.
Art Farm
The real beginning of all of this comes before our time, with my parents search for a rural home in the 1970's that eventually landed them at this gorgeous spot where we are lucky to be today. They had the vision of a community of artists and teachers offering an arts and ecology program. The landscape of farm fields, meadows, woods, streams, and wetlands along with a configuration of functional structures was ideal. The exploration of ones creative ability and potential in the arts was half of the concept. The other half was a gift of nature: available study of biology, botany, and ecology in its natural state. Art and science.
They needed the help of hundreds of coworkers and thousands of participants between 1974 and the mid 1990's to make the non-profit children's and adult learning center a reality and continual cooperative creative effort. Teachers with expertise would share their knowledge, concepts, skills and passion with fellow learners aged 3 to 90. Course offerings included environmental study, nature walks, tai chi, yoga, ballet, pottery, mask making, modern dance, film making, painting, photography, woodworking, parent child workshops, and much more.

We have decided to return home and carry on the name and spirit of the farm, but in a new venture, combining our creative appreciation and love of working the land. Art Farm now returns the land to agricultural use that had long ago been used to grow hops. A neighbor farming family, the Upsons, of Belted Rose Farm, also work part of the fields here to grow hay and feed for their certified organic dairy and meat operation down the road.
